The Green Loop Project Gets Better Direction

Many of you have asked us about what’s been going on with the Green Loop and Main Street, with several other high profile projects taking the spotlight over the latter half of 2024. Main Street hasn’t had much movement, but the city has decided it’s time to make a move with the Green Loop. The City Council voted this week to release about $3 million in funds to create project development and public space management guidelines, create a conceptual design for the Civic Block of 200 E (350 to 450 South), and design the layout on 500 West from 600 to 900 South (KSL). According to SLC Transportation, the 500 West section is on the shortlist to be constructed “2026 and beyond.” Meanwhile, city documents indicate that funds are pending for 200 East from 100 South to 500 South from Utah’s Transit Transportation Investment Fund, which rated the project the highest on the list.

Another fun tidbit on the Transportation Investment Fund website, the Active Transportation section shows a “Main St High Comfort Bikeway” top of the list, which we’d presume means the Main St Corridor Vision from the Life on State project. We haven’t heard any movement on this yet, but it’s something to watch. Let’s build the Main Line!
