Streets Updates - August 2025

Here’s everything we know in regards to construction and other street impacts from around the city.

Transit Updates

SLC Non-Construction Updates:

  • The impact of SB 195 - New projects this year have been put on hold while the study process begins. A study, the “Urban Mobility Assessment Study by UDOT ™,” will be compiled, including results from the current survey and analysis of data including:

    • “Traffic volumes, speed data, and crash statistics

    • Transit, pedestrian, and bicycle activity

    • Air quality readings

    • Economic indicators such as sales tax revenue

    • Public input from commuters, residents, and business owners”

  • The study will be presented to the Utah Legislature’s Transportation Interim Committee on October 15, 2025, then SLC will have until November 1 to respond to the study. SLC and UDOT are communicating to avoid surprises, but based on the origins of SB195, we have to be wary of other actors interjecting. The state also has a steering committee for this study process that is almost entirely focused on businesses, real estate, and commuting, shutting out the general public who live in Salt Lake City.

  • 1000 West - The railroad street closure is still in place and likely to continue for a long while. Barricades cover most of the street and sidewalks, though it remains possible for pedestrians and cyclists to pass through. Consider reaching out to Councilmembers Victoria Petro and Alejandro Puy to express your support for a permanent (and comfortable) modal filter at this Folsom Trail-adjacent location.

  • Jordan River Trail (JRT) - The closure and detour between 400 North and 800 North is now gone and the new section of trail is open! Head on other there and check it out!

Current SLC Projects:

  • 300 North: Almost complete! All of the pavement is down, striping has been placed, and curbs for the protected bikeway are almost complete. The project is expected to be fully complete by the end of the month.

  • 2100 South: Counting down the days! Most work should be complete in the next month.

  • 600/700 North: Work continues between 1200 and 1500 West and the intersection of Redwood Road and 700 North. This is a long-term project expected to last through the end of 2026.

  • 1300 East: There are various impacts that can be found on the construction activities tab of the project page. Project completion is expected by this fall.

  • 100 South: Most (if not all) of the paving work was just completed and striping should take place as early as August 5. The project is still on track for completion before the University of Utah’s semester begins on August 18.

  • 400 South Viaduct Trail: Construction is underway beginning with new curb ramp installation and bridge repairs. The project is expected to be complete by November.

  • 300 West Bikeway: Curbs have went in all the way down to 900 South! Construction will continue with slurry seal over the existing asphalt, finishing touches on traffic islands, and signal/push button installation.

  • Streets Resurfacing: All projects that were planned to have restriping changes will no longer have those changes this year due to SB 195. These changes could eventually happen, though the state has wasted our money by not allowing the city to make the changes as the street is resurfaced. They might have to scrub off the existing paint to restripe (and nothing is cheap!)

  • Livable Streets: Zones 1, 2, 3, and 4 in Sugar House, Glendale, and Poplar Grove are wrapped up. Zones 5-9 might see construction work later this year, stay tuned!

  • Kensington Avenue Neighborhood Byway: Just waiting on the 700 East crossing to become active, any day now!

  • Jordan Meadows & Westpoint Neighborhood Byway: Construction has started and is expected to be completed this year.

  • Westminster to Sunnyside Neighborhood Byway: The feedback period has closed. There’s currently no timeline for implementation, as the construction needs funding.

  • Poplar Grove Neighborhood Byways: The next phase of byway improvements in Poplar Grove will begin soon! Check the project website periodically and we’ll make an update if there are any in the next newsletter.

  • Ballpark Station Crossings: The new crosswalks have been installed, but we’ll have to wait until later in the year for UTA to work on getting the traffic signals integrated with the rail signal system.
