Construction Updates - July 2025
Here’s everything we know in regards to construction and other street impacts from around the city.
Transit Updates
TRAX Red Line will be out of service from May 24 to August 17 for maintenance. There is a small pause in the work now between July 3-5, which will see Red Line service resume in support of events over the holiday. Otherwise, you'll need to transfer to Buses 1, 2, 4, or 4R (4R is supplemental to the 4 to temporarily increase frequency, and goes to Stadium Station).
Check out UTA’s 5 Year Service plan to see what’s coming in the next couple of years.
SLC Non-Street Construction Updates:
The impact of SB 195 - We’re seeing some projects get delayed, such as the restriping planned for 700 East and 1700 South and the CIP project on Sunnyside Ave. These and similar projects will now have to wait until the city completes a streets plan for UDOT, which will then need their approval. We’re unsure whether the public will have any input opportunities, but we’ll keep you posted!
1000 West - The railroad street closure is still in place. Barricades cover most of the street and sidewalks, though it remains possible for pedestrians and cyclists to pass through. Consider reaching out to Councilmembers Victoria Petro and Alejandro Puy to express your support for a permanent (and comfortable) modal filter at this Folsom Trail-adjacent location.
Jordan River Trail (JRT) - The closure and detour between 400 North and 800 North remains in place, but new vault-style garbage bins have been placed in key locations to cut down on litter and improve the efficiency of parks staff.
Current SLC Projects:
300 North: All paving has now been completed! They’ll next work on signage, striping, and installation of curb for the protected bike lanes as well as a raised crossing at 800 West. The project is expected to be complete by August.
2100 South: Construction will continue through to early September.
600/700 North: Work continues between 1200 and 1500 West and the intersection of Redwood Road and 700 North. This is a long-term project expected to last through the end of 2026.
1300 East: There are various impacts that can be found on the construction activities tab of the project page. Project completion is expected by this fall.
100 South: Crews have wrapped up work on the north side. They’ll move to the south side of the street on July 7 and pedestrian access will switch to the north side of the street.
400 South Viaduct Trail: Construction will begin any day now starting with the demolition of the existing pedestrian ramps from 200 West to 500 West.
300 West Bikeway: Construction has begun, with curbs installed between 400 South and 600 South. Concrete islands have been installed at 300 South and 700 South. The work will continue to progress southward.
Streets Resurfacing: It appears that all projects that were planned to have restriping changes will no longer have those changes due to SB 195.
Livable Streets: Zones 1, 2, 3, and 4 in Sugar House, Glendale, and Poplar Grove are pretty much wrapped up. Zones 5-9 are currently in engineering design.
Kensington Avenue Neighborhood Byway: Most work has been completed! We’re mostly waiting on the signal for the most important crossing - the one at 700 East.
Jordan Meadows & Westpoint Neighborhood Byway: Construction has started and is expected to be completed this year.
Westminster to Sunnyside Neighborhood Byway: The feedback period has closed. There’s currently no timeline for implementation, as the construction needs funding.
Poplar Grove Neighborhood Byways: The next phase of byway improvements in Poplar Grove will begin soon! Check the project website periodically and we’ll make an update if there are any in the next newsletter.
Ballpark Station Crossings: The new crosswalks have been installed, but we’ll have to wait until later in the year for UTA to work on getting the traffic signals integrated with the rail signal system.
