Letters and Lagers

  • Fisher Brewing Company 320 West 800 South Salt Lake City, UT, 84101 United States (map)

Join Sweet Streets and Bike Utah for Letters and Lagers, a free workshop on contacting your policymakers effectively, and learn about transportation bills this state legislative session.

The event will be held at Fisher Brewing Company (21+ only) and take place in the private event space in the new building through the courtyard. We’ll start with Bike Utah, who will introduce the policy they have brought forward in the Utah legislative session, as well as other transportation related bills they’re tracking. Then, we’ll move onto the workshop portion, led by Justice Morath.

Justice Morath is an Associate Professor of Psychology and professional Science Communicator. For years he's taught workshops on persuasive political writing in numerous spaces such as libraries, jails, homeless shelters, college classrooms, and pride festivals. This workshop dives into the science of persuasion to help people be the most effective in writing to elected officials, and in persuading the public through newspaper op-eds and social media.

We’ll have members of several local non-profit organizations who promote active and public transportation, such as Sweet Streets, Bike Utah, HEAL Utah, and Via Rio Grande, available to chat about transportation related issues you might bring up to your policymakers.

Note that Fisher Brewing is a bar, so the event is 21+ only. Fisher welcomes outside food, though a food truck will also be posted outside the brewery. Please, no outside drinks. Water is available at dispensers near both bars.
