People-first streets
and public spaces.
Streets Affect Everyone.
You cannot go on a walk, jog, bike ride or roll without interacting with a street or sidewalk. You cannot ignore the street in front of your home - it matters. But for much of the past century, planners and policy makers have marginalized people outside of cars.
By endangering our streets’ most vulnerable users, we increase divisions in our communities. Auto-dependency has cost countless lives. It has dirtied our air. It contributes to deepening inequalities. Let’s end it for good.
“While many different factors influence the safety of humans in cities, none matters nearly so much as the speed at which vehicles are traveling.”
— Jeff Speck, Walkable City Rules
